American Legion Post 201, Lemon Grove, California brought the veterans together in honor and remembrance of our fallen soldiers this Memorial Day 2026. We stand united, remembering the sacrifice, courage, and legacy of the heroes who gave everything for our country. 🇺🇸🔥 Let us never forget.
Today Moss Grills pay homage this memorial day to remeber US Army Seargent 1st Class Harrison E Harston Jr
A Legacy of Service: A Biographical Narrative of a 21-Year Veteran
This narrative honors the distinguished 21-year career of a United States Army veteran whose service spanned the height of the Cold War and the most intense periods of the Vietnam conflict. His journey is defined by technical mastery in ballistics and the proven leadership of soldiers in combat and the classroom.
The Cold War Shield (1950–1964)
The first decade of his service was dedicated to the strategic defense of North America. After an initial deployment to South Korea with the 24th Infantry Regiment, he transitioned into the high-stakes field of Army Ballistics.
Attached to the Air Defense Command (ADC) and the Nike Hercules program, he served as a specialist ensuring the operational readiness of the nation’s primary surface-to-air missile defense system. His deployments to the Arctic front lines included:
Scott Air Force Base, Illinois
Fort Wainwright, Alaska
Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska
In these remote and critical locations, he maintained the sophisticated weaponry required to protect the continent from aerial threats during a period of global tension.
The Crucible of Combat (1964–1967)
Promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSGT) in 1964, he moved from strategic defense to tactical combat operations. Following training with Patton’s 3rd Army Ballistics at Fort Knox, he attended the Jungle Expert School in Panama, gaining the specialized skills necessary for Southeast Asian warfare.
In 1967, he deployed to Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). As an NCO in the Army’s first airmobile unit, he was at the forefront of helicopter-borne assaults, leading fire teams into combat as they rappelled into active landing zones. His actions during this tour represented the vanguard of modern airmobile infantry tactics. He retired from the Army in 1971 after 21 years service.
